Abstract

|
The author is reporting a patient with Guillain-Barre syndrome who was mis-diagnosed as spinal stenosis, resulted in unnecessary surgical decompression. Guillain-Barre syndrome is an acute, frequently severe, and fulminant polyradiculoneuropathy that is autoimmune in nature. Guillain-Barre syndrome manifests as rapidly evolving areflexic motor paralysis with or without sensory disturbance. The purpose of this report is to describe the clinical picture of mis-diagnosed Guillain-Barre syndrome and to illustrate the importance of determining exact cause of neurologic deficit in case of the patient with vague, nonlocalizing leg pain.
